A Shift

Its been so hard. That eventful day that she finally was given release. She had been moving from corner to corner forever restless like a caged beast. Nerissa covered in gore clear up to her elbows, dripped from her mouth. The sounds of battle caught her attention easily enough and she began to throw herself at her padded door in a frenzy inspite of the drugs that kept her from her worst. The demon couldn't remember when they put her in the cell but to feel him on the other door set her to keening and Neri shoved her arm out the small window, busting the thick glass and shattering her flesh and nearly the delicate bones of her knuckles as she reaches for him. "Tazzzz!!!" She has screeched, the fear in her voice making her voice shrill even in her own ears and then heard him yelling at the ones on the other side with the rest of her family. Blood. Scorched flesh. The sound of gun fire. The screams. Coven swept through the hospital and brought down anyone in their path. He was there and her heart hammered in her chest that she was about dizzy from it as she threw herself against the door over and over even as it began to become twisted and warped as he got to literally pulling at the metal to get her out. He was all she could think of. The need to be in his arms making her hurt herself to get out of the room to him. Even when he got her out, she clung to him, shuddering weakly now as her body wanted to give out finally. The shock swept through her and exhaustion set in. The coven around them with waves of anger radiating off them and dead bodies at their feet. There was no coherent look in her eyes. That what was Nerissa was lost deep within her mind to escape the pain of being a guinea pig. The old fear of hospitals. Tazai was her life line here. A friend. A companion. He held her heart and life now in his hands.

Slowly, they leave, he and she left to heal Will. Well, Taz. She wasn't able to even think on her own..standing there looking lost, rocking from foot to foot, as she watched him when all she wanted to do was run out and thrash anyone in her path.

Alive and now sleeping, Will is left safely hidden to recooperate and she's led out quickly through the back way to get her back to the shop. He was the one that took care of her. Cleaned her of the gore she bathed in when they slipped one too many times. She stank, she knew this, but he sat there beside her and washed her entirely. And as her eyes grew heavy, he held her close, safe, in his arms as she finally just passed out across his thighs where she had finally laid herself so that his hand would slide through her dirty, matted hair as it clung to her sweaty face. The chill barely clinging to her right now. Each tiny sound would make her flinch and tremble against him but he held her safe. And this was how she slept.

Almost a week has passed and only now does there show some sense of normalcy in her eyes. The hair no longer black but a dark auburn of the day she was born. No horns. No tail. No wings. She looked every bit as she had the day of her death but for the tapering ears that poke out of the shaggy hair. She still flinches at sounds. Nerissa's eyes haunted. Keeping close to the shop or in hiding even. He's been gone since then but he's always close to whisper a word to her, soothing. And friends. Family. Reminding her she is not alone.
